Written by Grażyna Potwora / 29 August 2007

Lean Play®, a simulation game, is unforgettable. Your workers will experience a fantastic taste of success when the capacity of a factory set by them will increase by several dozen percent. Additionally, they will exert themselves with significantly less effort. It always works! Then, they will only have to transfer their new skills to the real factory. But it is another story.

Lean Play®  is a 2-3 days’ meeting of about  10 workers or management members. Your co-workers will pretend to be organizers and members of a traditional production process, i.e. a manager, a customer, an inventory keeper, a planner, a fitter, etc. They will make independent decisions to improve the productivity and work hard assembling products.  During the next sessions, we will make successive improvement tools accessible to them. They will not even notice when they learn and experience 5S, Kanban, or SMED.

Depending on type of determined objectives, Lean Play® can take various forms. It is one of the most flexible tools available on the market which allows to understand Lean Manufacturing philosophy and mechanisms in a practical way. Examples of chosen objectives:

  • practice in implementing Lean Manufacturing techniques and their interconnections (SMED, Kanban, 5S, Kaizen, Poka Yoke);
  • becoming acquainted with soft skills in production management;
  • exercises in the analysis of production processes;
  • developing skills in choosing techniques adequate to the company problems and needs;
  • seeing consequences of applying individual Lean Manufacturing methods and techniques;
  • acquiring the ability to balance the process flow (combination of workstands, exchange of activities among workstands);
  • exercises in searching bottlenecks and methods of their elimination.

You can combine this game with conventional elements of Lean Workshops. For example, the first day will be devoted to theoretical introduction to Lean, and the second or both the second and the third day will be devoted to this game. We will willingly design Lean Play® workshops especially for you! Contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Image
