which will consolidate your actions and make the production in your company more effective and even.
A crucial thing is an ability to distinguish coaching from consulting. A consultant can help you in improving the organization of your production. A coach can help you in improving your own behaviour and the way of managing the organization. During coaching you will develop your abilities and competence. You will reach your aims in the organization more easily. The coach does not have to be an expert at your trade. It is like in sport – a great trainer does not have to be a world champion. Competence related to teaching processes is more important.
PPC coach is competent at a company management, production management and teaching, but not necessarily at, e.g. wood industry. Compare it with Lean Manufacturing. Here the most important information is located in so called genba, i.e. in a production hall and operators’ heads. According to coaching, the most important information and solutions concerning production management are in your head. The idea of coaching is based on assumption that you have the proper knowledge and understanding of your company processes, but you do not always know how to apply these skills in everyday work. And this idea distinguishes coaching from simple teaching, which is based on knowledge transfer.
See what your coach can help you in (on the basis of International Coaching Community):
Meetings with your coach are, of course, also dedicated to specific subjects that you are involved in. For example, you together review the way of working of key people managing production in your company. And the result is a case study and testing in practice the best way of motivating each of your leaders. Your meetings with the coach can also focus on noticing possible inconsistencies and development potential in your organization. Sometimes, the meetings can be held in the form of review of Lean Manufacturing tools applied in your company, their consequences and mutual interaction. Topics may also turn out to be more personal. They can refer to your method of working with others, e.g. lack of trust in your subordinates' competence and difficulties in delegating tasks. See Adam’s example.
The core of the coaching is your trust in your coach, which is built through the whole time spent together. That’s why; your coach refers to a set of ethical principles which make the basis of this trust.
If you are eager to improve yourself, decide on coaching with Polish Productivity Center.
1. First step is to make contact. PPC representative, but not a coach, will visit you in order to determine a type of coaching you need. It can happen that you will act as a sponsor, i.e. we will meet to talk about coaching for your co-worker or subordinate. Depending on a type of your needs, we will propose you a particular coach. Your meeting is not binding in any way. You can either accept or reject this coach. In the latter case, we will propose somebody else. If you are the sponsor, the proposed coach will meet also with your co-worker. Just the acceptance of a coach commences the coaching process.
2. Diagnosis is the next step. It consists in interviews, tests and observation sessions of your action. The diagnosis finishes with the formulation of specific goals, which we want to achieve.
3. In the third step we prepare the operating plan. Your coach will provide you tools, examples, literature and you discuss the key issues. You establish the implementation schedule and select success measures.
4. Through a few weeks or months you work independently, trying to comply with the accepted plan.
5. Fifth step is the further meeting with the coach, during which you review your new behaviours and their results. If the sponsor is present in the process, the coaching results are also discussed with him.
